When many people hear about copyright they think about the protection of someone else work and consequences that comes with illegal usage. With that being said a lot of people do not know about copyright fair use. Copyright fair use allows you to to use someone else’s work but it has to fall under certain principles. Using copyright materials for parody purposes is one of the principles. Parody purposes could mean using someone else work for comedy. People in the music industry are criticized everyday for example one famous artist by the name of weird al Yankovic parodies other artist music for entertainment purposes without breaking the law. Another use of fair use is using quotes from articles in order to confirm a point or argument. For instance if someone is doing a report on a article they read they could use quotes and phrases from the article to make a point without breaking any copyright laws.
Capturing copyright content in process of filming something else is another example of fair use. A news reporter may come across someone who is playing music in the background which is not enough to get in trouble for copyrighting material if the music only plays for a short while. lastly using copyright material to represent history.
